We took a day trip to New Braunfels to see their children’s museum, which was fun, but the highlight was stopping by the Tube Chute on the Comal River. Dave remembered going as a kid and wanted to show our kids, but once they saw it they insisted we return the following day with tubes to try it out ourselves. Turns out the Walmart in San Antonio sells cheap inflatable tubes year-round which was super convenient. We weren’t sure if the weather would hold but the kids bravely got in the water anyway and it was so fun! The outdoor weather was in the low 70s and overcast, and the Comal River is spring-fed so it is a consistent 70-ish degrees. We couldn’t believe we were able to comfortably float down a river in December! Aside from losing my glasses when Townes and I flipped our tube it was a near perfect day. I’m certain there was plenty of fighting and yelling during the car ride but I have conveniently forgotten that part. As a bonus, Eagle Eye Elsie found a gem in the river and we’ve been told it might be a white sapphire, which could be worth a few hundred bucks (to buy me some new glasses).
6 kids: triplets, twins and a singleton. We’re traveling the US in our big white van.
