We went on a camping trip with some friends up near Snowbird. It was really fun. The first couple of hours we just played on some rocks by the campsite. We pretended we were cats defending our territory. We kept fighting about who got which rocks and where our dens were. We all chose a position to be. Some of us were leaders while others were healers. The idea came from a book series that me and Elsie really like to read called Warriors. Wren made up that there were these creatures that were very dangerous and we were trying to drive them out but they were invincible.
Later that day we all went on a little hike before our friends got there. We had to cross a tiny little bridge to get to these cool ruins, and then we kept going up the river. It was fun to play on the rocks. I found a bunch of rocks that were really pretty and I brought a few pebbles with me. We were trying to get as far the river as we could but we couldn’t really get ourselves wet so it was kind of hard.
The next day we went on a hike to an alpine lake called Cecret Lake (yes, it’s really spelled that terrible way). The hike was longer and steeper than we thought it was going to be but we were able to make it since Daddy was telling a story. (He does that every time we go on a hard hike and it works to distract us.) When we made it to the lake we realized it had been drained and we were a little disappointed but when we moved to the other side of the lake it still looked pretty. We saw a bunch of tiger salamanders in the lake. There was lots of mud and some of us (not me) got really muddy.
From our campsite we could hear the river (Little Cottonwood Creek) but we couldn’t find it but I found a way down to it and we played there. I almost lost my hat when I was climbing on one of the rocks. The water was pretty cold. We explored downstream until there was nowhere left to go and then we headed back before anyone fell in. (There was a smaller creek by our campsite that Townes fell into up to his armpits!)
We had fun on that camping trip and I hope we can go again soon.
