Money, Pizza and Cars

Many of the activities in this part of Colorado are expensive because they get so many tourists. Luckily we found a few cool free museums around Colorado Springs that turned out to be way more interesting than we had anticipated.

The Money Museum was a pleasant surprise. They had money on display from all over the world, since the beginning of money!

We got way more than we expected from the Penrose Heritage Museum. It is full of amazing artifacts owned by a married couple who helped to establish the Pikes Peak area. They are the ones who got the Pikes Peak Highway built and started the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, which still runs today. The museum had a bunch of old carriages and race cars, including the one below that could have fit our entire family along with a few extra.

This is the wreckage of a race car that went over the edge during the Hill Climb a few years ago. We watched video footage from inside and outside this car, taken during the wreck. It is incredible that both passengers walked away from the crash.

We got to ride this 100 year old elevator in a little museum in Colorado Springs. It’s called a birdcage elevator and we got to close the cage doors before we manually closed the elevator doors. Pretty fun.

We don’t eat out very often but when we do, we go big.
